Protege
It was a nice show. Something close to heart. Something portrayed well. Acting was good. Painfully good. Disturbingly good. The only thing about the show that I don't like, is that it failed to show any struggle within Ah Li whether to betray his boss. Maybe his character was written as one who's very clear about his identity, but yet, I felt that his actions in the show showed him as a person who truely understood and felt for his boss..
The film ends with a final question: Are drugs scarier, or is emptiness scarier?
My only answer: drugs are physically scarier, emptiness is emotionally scarier.
Ah the end of the show, the little girl was shown taking the needle away from Ah Li. But the question remains.. was it removed after the heroin has been injected, or not?
I choose to believe that the girl managed to fill Ah Li's emptiness..
